Not Only In India But These 5 Countries Also Have Banned PUBG
In September 2020, the Indian government made the historic move of banning both PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in the country, as part of a crackdown that began in June amid rising tensions with China in Ladakh.
Owing to a fair share of controversies, the popular battle royale game has been banned in several other countries as well, apart from India. Here are those:
1- Iraq
In 2019, the Iraq parliament had banned several popular online games, including Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). The government says these games are harmful to society and a potential national security threat.
The ban itself, unsurprisingly, was not received kindly by the scores of Iraqi fans, but it continues to exist to date.
2- Jordan
In July 2019, the government of Jordan cited the negative effects of PUBG on the kingdom’s citizens and banned it. Though hugely popular, psychologists in the country had repeatedly warned that the game encourages violence and contributes to bullying among youth.
3- Nepal
The game was banned in Nepal too as the government felt that it was addictive and prompted violent behavior.
But the ban was later lifted by the Supreme Court stating that the government could not enforce such a ban that interfered with personal freedom.
4- Pakistan
In July 2020, Pakistan temporarily banned PUBG on the grounds of the addictive nature of the game. They felt that such games were the reason behind the growing corruption among Pakistani youth.
Shortly after the younger generation protested against the ban, it was called off.
5- China
You may be surprised to see China’s name here as PUBG Mobile was run by Tencent Games – a Chinese conglomerate. But in 2019, Tencent Games was denied permission by the government to sell in-app purchases on PUBG Mobile. Eventually, the game was banned, with the government citing various cultural concerns.
