August 16 1947 Movie Review: Rape, Violence, Betrayal: Shocking Tragedy! – FILM COMPANION

August 16 1947 is tragic in additional methods than one. Tragic, initially, within the story it makes an attempt to inform. Singaad, a village, is within the talon-like grip of a brutal British dictator Robert (Richard Ashton) and his son Justin (Jason Shah). ‘Darinda’ and ‘Raavan’ are few of the selection descriptors the movie showers on them. Serrated whippings, spiky lashings, rape, burnings, boilings, burials are all par for course. Any lady who reaches puberty is yanked off by Justin to be raped. To stop this, generally, males within the household kill the women earlier than Justin can lay a finger — the logic, like that of jauhar, is a weepy upholding of false dignity. Different males attempt to gown up their women as boys hoping this could maintain Jason’s eyes off them. After which there’s the owner, who locks up his daughter in a gilded room for years, telling the villagers that she died of illness as a toddler. The village is remoted, surrounded by dense mountains. So marooned that the villagers should not even conscious that India goes to grow to be impartial.
