Roshan Kanakala, son of Suma and Rajeev Kanakala, is all set for his debut as lead actor with Bubblegum. He teamed up with director Ravikanth Perepu of Kshanam and Krishna and His Leela fame. Roshan turned heads together with his assured pre-release speeches. Will he rating the success in his maiden try? Let’s take a look at.

What’s it about?

Adi (Roshan), the son of butcher Yadagiri, is a happy-go-lucky man with a singular ambition to turn into a preferred DJ. In the meantime, like some other youth, he turns into interested in a stupendous lady named Janu (Manasa Chowdary) who can be rich. Janu is an aspiring designer who’s planning to go overseas for greater research. Nonetheless, she additionally finds herself drawn to Adi. Janu is just not inclined in the direction of critical relationships and is averse to commitments in life, having no plans for marriage or settling down. Quite the opposite, Adi is honest and sincere in his love for Janu. “Bubblegum” explores Adi and Janu’s love journey, the challenges they face, and the way they overcome them.

Performances

Roshan Kanakala is a novice actor, and his inexperience is kind of evident in his efficiency. He tries to do a Vijay Deverakonda and Vishwak Sen-style efficiency blended with perspective and conceitedness. It largely failed, albeit labored for a only a few scenes. The affect is just not felt. Feminine lead Manasa Chowdary is daring and delightful. She does nicely within the romantic scenes however struggles in terms of emotion. Chaitu Jonnalagadda is an absolute show-stealer. He’s so pure and flawless because the new-age father. His old-city accent provides nice worth addition for his character. Bindu Chandramouli as mom is apt for the position. Harshavardhan and different actors match the invoice. Viva Harsha will get wasted with a poorly-written aspect character. Hero’s pals are alright. Performances-wise, the movie has nothing a lot to level out.

Technicalities

Plot-wise, it’s an age-old one and the battle is disconnecting. Author-director Ravikanth, who can be credited for modifying, fails to relate a gripping story. Barring the center and the top, it falters in between. Sri Charan Pakala’s background music and a few songs are good. Digital camera work by Suresh Ragatu is noteworthy.

Evaluation

Director Ravikanth Perepu earned the tag of wise filmmaker. Be it Kshanam or Krishna and His Leela, he has set a bar of minimal expectations for his movies. Nonetheless, together with his newest outing Bubblegum, Ravikanth fell quick. Proper from selecting a weak story and the ego-driven battle to the writing and the therapy, he will get it flawed. Deliberately, there may be an effort to make the lead actor’s character appear to be an indignant younger man, however it doesn’t translate nicely. The poor boy vs wealthy lady love story is finished to loss of life. It wanted recent narration and drive. The director makes an attempt an Arjun Reddy-style presentation, the way in which he fights together with his lady and the way in which she comes again chasing him. These all give a sense of nostalgia.

The love story of the lead actors is just not convincing sufficient within the first place. The preliminary scenes lacked that vigour, thus making it a typical youth movie. The formulaic placement of songs obstructs the storytelling. The one main episode resulting in a serious battle between the lead pair appears pressured. Because the movie reaches the halfway, it raises some curiosity. The best way the opening scene and the interval block are linked is an effective one.

Put up-interval, the movie goes haywire. The ego battle vs love and the flip of the lady to chase the boy all look unnatural and make one disconnect with the happenings. The main battle scene is repetitive and the scenes weaved round it additionally fail. One doesn’t perceive the entire character of Joel, the ex-boyfriend of Janu, who presents on a regular basis for the comfort of the director to create some drama and battle at any time when he intends to. The entire Goa episode is disengaging. The rapper parts remind one in all Gully Boy. The movie drags solely to bore the viewers additional. The ego coming between love enjoying spoilsport is just not successfully conveyed. The writing could be very sub-par.

Having mentioned the above, the one factor that works is the boy’s father Yadagairi (Chaitu Jonnalagadda) and his banter together with his son Adi. Other than this, the hero and heroine’s romance and the fixed liplocks could enchantment to a piece of youth. It’s a used and outdated bubblegum with all gum, however no juice left. This bubblegum is stretched means past than it ought to be. The extra one chews it, the extra bitter it turns. Barring first rate interval and climax, Bubblegum has nothing a lot to supply.

Verdict: Tasteless Bubblegum!

Ranking: 2/5
