‘Kolla’ movie review: Rajisha Vijayan, Priya Varrier lead an underwhelming thriller – The Hindu
A number of cat-and-mouse video games play out in Suraj Varma’s heist film Kolla (that means theft). The principle ones are, after all, the thieves toying with cops and vice versa. The story has all of the twists and turns one expects from a narrative by Bobby-Sanjay and extra. Simply as you agree into the story, there comes a twist out of the blue, then one other, and one other.

Kolla is a thriller-meets-police procedural, instructed from each views: of the thieves and the cops chasing them. The police process half lags, some particulars have been avoidable and will have helped maintain the narrative tight. What units the movie other than different heist motion pictures in Malayalam is the lady mastermind – Annie. Apparently, for a narrative that’s about two ladies opening a magnificence parlour and committing a theft, there are only a few ladies characters within the movie.
All of it appears innocent when two pals, Annie (Rajisha Vijayan) and Shilpa (Priya Varrier), come to a small city in Kerala to arrange a magnificence parlour. It’s when Annie tells Shilpa, “don’t overlook why we’re right here does” that the penny drops and we launch all shouldn’t be what it appears.

Rajisha Vijayan and Priya Varrier complement one another completely: the daring Annie is the foil for the timid Shilpa.
Kolla (Malayalam)
Whereas the movie’s first half introduces us to the gamers, their characters and their motivations, the motion actually picks up a minute earlier than the interval when a ‘suspect’ actually drops useless.
From then on the twists maintain coming, the pivotal one being the thieves not realizing the place the loot is stashed. Nearly when the cops start their hunt in earnest the movie begins shedding tempo. The screenplay by Jasim Jalal and Nelson Joseph might have been tighter, particularly since it’s a Bobby-Sanjay story.

Kolla leaves one with many questions. Why this explicit cooperative financial institution? What’s the connection between Alencier’s character, Stephen and Annie’s father? Why is Annie so beholden to him? If Annie had a father who she cherished, how did she and Shilpa find yourself in a shelter? One can’t assist however marvel if the pressures of preserving the movie brief (to accommodate the calls for of the OTT platform which acquired the rights?) led to chopping on the enhancing desk.
The supporting forged does an incredible job. Kollam Sudhi who died in an accident earlier this week seems in a small function within the movie. Alencier Lopez and Prashant Alexander ship. One can’t assist however wonder if the latter had a extra substantial half which was maybe misplaced throughout enhancing. He disappears simply as unexpectedly as he reveals up.
Vinay Forrt is the cop, Inspector Farooq Rahman, who matches his wits with Annie and ‘cracks’ the case. Since Vinay has completed more difficult roles, this cop function would have been a stroll within the park for him. Music director Shaan Rahman additionally has a cameo because the Superintendent of Police.

Pacy because the movie is, instructed in an almost-taut two-hours plus run-time, the occasional lag had individuals reaching out for his or her telephones. Given the potential of the story, the movie is underwhelming. That stated, it’s paisa vasool (possibly not multiplex ranges, although).
