Lata Didi, as she was fondly known as by all, handed away on the Breach Sweet Hospital on February 6 after extended spells of sickness together with Covid-19. That night she was accorded a public funeral with full state honours within the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, varied Central and State cupboard ministers, Bollywood celebs and others, in addition to hundreds of her followers and admirers, at Shivaji Park.
