The SonyLIV series introduces several new elements and characters in its premiere. Read our review of the first episode.

About Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani is the latest courtroom drama on OTT after Guilty Minds and The Trial. And like most legal series, there are certain similarities and differences. Starring Jennifer Winget and Karan Wahi, this SonyLIV series will also contain a romance sub-plot in between the fight for the legal throne along with the usual cases in court. The Hindi series airs weekly from Monday to Wednesday on the streaming platform.

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani: Plot

The self-absorbed Rajdeep Raisinghani (Sanjay Nath) is in the middle of a big case involving a Bollywood star Jia Chatterjee accused of murdering her abusive ex-boyfriend. The natural successor to Rajdeep’s private legal practice should be his daughter Anushka (Winget). However, her former flame Virat Chowdhary (Wahi) arrives back on the scene to challenge her. There’s also a bright young woman Ankita (Reem Shaikh) who want to intern at the Raisinghani but her motives are unclear for now.

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani: Writing and Direction

Showrunner Bhavna Sresth and lead writer Anuradha Tewari seem to be in no hurry to take with this courtroom drama. Moreover, unlike the previous legal shows that have come before this, Raisignhani Vs Raisinghani balances out the character driven drama with actual time fighting cases. It feels like the Jia Chatterjee case will take up most of the future episodes as both Anushka and Virat have a vested interest in the outcome.

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani premieres on OTT but it operates as a slight upgrade over a daily soap opera. Most of its stars, including Winget and Wahi, are from television and their characterization doesn’t stray far away from that medium.

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani: Performances

Former Dill Mill Gayye co-stars Winget and Wahi reunite here as a former couple who are now competitive co-workers. The focus on this pairing and their chemistry is a given as the leads are at ease in their given roles, especially Wahi. However, Winget’s character feels a bit standard and familiar, with that of a young female lawyer trying to uphold the legal family legacy. I hope the actors get to expand on their parts as the rivals and colleagues arc was done quite well in the Amazon Prime Video series Guilty Minds with Shriya Pilgaonkar and Varun Mitra.

The rest of the cast perform in fairly broad strokes for now, filling in the expected slots required by their characters. Shaikh, who plays Ankita, sticks too closely to the TV medium in her portrayal of her hopeful intern.

Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani: Critique

The drama series also tries injecting a bit of mystery into the proceeding with a mysterious car accident, the outcome of which affects all the characters. Winget’s Anushka is shown to be the rule-following ethical lawyer, while Wahi’s Virat seems to be willing to take risks to get the job done. It’s not clear how Shaikh’s Ankita will interact with them. Raisinghani Vs Raisinghani has started languidly but I hope it gets to the point soon, otherwise interest could be lost.
