Spaceman review – Adam Sandler is adrift in outer space with a comfort spider | Science fiction and fantasy films
An astronaut who’s simply over six months right into a solo mission to research a mysterious galactic phenomenon, Jakub (a tortured, reined-in efficiency from Adam Sandler) is ill-placed to take care of the breakdown of his marriage to his pregnant spouse, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), left behind on Earth. Fortuitously, an alien spider with the voice of Paul Dano and all of the knowledge of the universe has stowed away on the vessel and gives Jakub advert hoc remedy classes.
Jakub and his (probably imaginary) emotional help arachnid drift aimlessly in the direction of some type of nebulous perception, accompanied by a rating that sounds just like the type of formless ambient wafting that will get piped right into a floatation tank. Spaceman is a fascinatingly odd premise let down by its drab, dispiritingly inert execution.
