LEXINGTON, MA–Sheejith Krishna, India’s main dancer and choreographer, will current a solo Bharatanatyam live performance for the primary time in Boston on Aug. 17.

Native dancer Soumya Rajaram, who’s organizing the occasion, will even current a few of his work through the first half of the night.

About Sheejith Krishna (reprinted from his official bio):

Sheejith Krishna studied, then taught, at Kalakshetra Basis, the world-renowned establishment for the classical arts in Chennai, India, for 21 years (1989-2010). Now an unbiased artiste and choreographer, he has learnt Bharatanatyam, percussion, and vocal music from such stalwarts as Sarada Hoffman, Vikku Vinayakaram, and S Rajaram.

He choreographed and directed for the Kalakshetra Repertory in 2007 the revolutionary Masquerade, an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s Man within the Iron Masks within the idiom of Bharatanatyam, to important and fashionable acclaim. Winner of the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2007), Sri Krishna Gana Sabha’s Yagnaraman Award for Excellence in Dance (2010), and the Ram Gopal Award for Finest Male Dancer (AttenDANCE, 2015), he has carried out lead/main roles in Kalakshetra Repertory productions whereas choreographing his personal solo and ensemble works.

He has taught workshops and programs for prestigious organizations and choreographed solo and group productions for different eminent artistes all over the world. In 2011, he choreographed the dance sequences for Ang Lee’s Academy award-winning movement image, Lifetime of Pi. He acquired a nationwide manufacturing grant from the Authorities of India’s Ministry of Tradition in 2015 for his authentic Bharatanatyam adaptation of Don Quixote. His choreographies embrace Masquerade (2007), Krishna Bharatam (2009), Parinaamam (2010), Pravaha (2013), Yathadarshe Tathaatmani (2014) and Don Quixote (2015).
